FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) announced that they have recovered the body of the FGCU student who fell off a boat Wednesday night.

The search lasted for over 12 hours to find the body of the 19-year-old man who fell overboard while on a private boat in Lake Como at the university.

At the time of the accident there were 13 other people on the boat with the victim, Graham McGrath.

According to LCSO, multiple crews responded to the area at around 7 p.m.

Deputies used a side-scan sonar on the boat, which is used to detect & image objects on the lake floor.

Images have shown that the lake reaches depths of 30-50 feet, which is much deeper than expected.

According to the sheriff, this is now a death investigation. The official cause of death is still pending.
